Vulcan To The Sky

This photo of XH558 marks an important milestone for Aviation Photo Gallery: it is the 1000th photo.

When I first started Aviation Photo Gallery back in August 2000, I never thought for a moment it would still be going twelve years later.

In that time, photography has gone through incredible technological advances, driven by the Internet and personal computers. It's easy to forget that my first efforts at aviation photography were 35mm slides. Does anyone remember slides, prints and negatives?

One thing that hasn't changed, and never will, is the unpredictable Scottish weather. No matter how technologically advanced the photographer may be, the Scottish weather can always defeat him.

So I am delighted that the 1000th photo shows Vulcan XH558, one of my favourite aircraft, with a hint of sunshine on its wings, and a hint of blue sky in the background!
