The Il-76 is a heavy tactical transport aircraft which first flew in 1971. It can carry a payload of up to 52000kg, including tanks, guns and other vehicles and equipment. The Il-76 can also carry 140 troops or 125 paratroops.

The Il-76 can operate from short, rough runways. Cargo is loaded through large rear doors. Other versions of this aircraft include an airborne command post and an aerial tanker. The tanker version can carry 90000kg of fuel.
